We are so lucky that well over half of the exhibitors who attend our shows are exclusive to KDF in the UK. This means you will find all kinds of beautiful handmade miniatures that you just won’t see at other UK fairs; making it a great place to buy something that is just a little bit more unusual. PERFECTION IN MINIATURE AWARDS – JUNIORS 2026 There is just over one month to go to register your entry in the PIMA Juniors Competition 2026. We cannot wait to see the entries this year so now the weather has cooled and the summer holidays are over, it is a great time to spend working on on your miniature room or special piece. That is exactly what Umut did last year. Aged 9, Umut created the perfect place to work on his entry! An artists studio with art materials, desk, easel, chair & coffee table. Here is what he said about his entry that was awarded 2nd place in the under 11’s category last year. "I got the inspiration from myself because I really like art but my Mum gave me the idea of joining because she had tried and I think she thought I might like it too. In this I put a desk with art materials on it and a chair. Next to it there is an easel. There is also an armchair & a coffee table with a cup on it. On the table there will also be a lamp & a pot of flowers. Umut made most of the things you see in the art room himself from wood, chopsticks, cocktail sticks, air dry clay, felt tips & foil. The theme for our under under 14’s room box this year is ’The Festive Season” It can be a copy of a room you know, or a room from a film or TV show or just from your imagination. It should celebrate Christmas, winter, or the holiday season in general. We will keep updating it regularly until the show. LADY BARBARA SPEAKE’S DOLLS HOUSE COLLECTION With all the excitement & chaos of the Online Showcase, we didn’t have a spot to post about an extraordinary dolls house collection that was sold at Chiswick Auctions last week. Lady Barbara Speake was an incredible lady. I knew her originally as the owner of a stage school in West London (I attended a rival ballet school nearby) What I later found out was that she was also a huge dolls house fanatic. Hidden away in an extension on the back of her home was a collection of over 100 dolls houses & vignettes. She could be seen at our shows buying new bits & bobs to bring these houses to life, because that is what she liked…telling stories. We have recently posted a story on our NEWS page of our website about her collection. The variety of houses was incredible & you could see exactly what was going on in each scene (she had a great sense of humour!). One of her pupils was Phil Collins & they became friends. She recreated his recording studio in one of the scenes. Caroline Hamilton always used to use students from her Stage School as porters at the Festival (helping exhibitors load & unload), so when I took over in 2005, I asked Barbara if they could continue to help out, but she declined saying they couldn’t have the time off school. I continue to employ young students as porter though from all walks of life so I think this tradition continues. The photos are some of the many houses featured in the auction. All have gone on to new homes where I am sure they will be loved & cared for. Click the link in our bio to read more about her amazing collection.
