New award to celebrate & support the new talent attending the Kensington Dollshouse Festivals.
2022 was a year of discovery for us. We have spent the past 12 months scouring our tiny world for new craftsmen, passionate about small scales & creating perfect miniatures for us to admire.
There are some fantastic new makers heading over to Kensington for our next 2 shows but there is still room for more. We really want to encourage all those ‘secret’ miniaturists out there to give it a go & to start exhibiting their work at our events.
We are not the only people determined to find all the new talent out there. We have teamed up with Emma Waddell of Dolls House Grand Designs & judge on the fabulous ‘Best in Miniature’ TV show, to encourage our newbies not to give up. Between us we are sponsoring a new annual award; the “LDF Debut Award’ that will be presented at our Summer Show in May, for the best newcomer to our shows. The prize will be a free table at a future show + £500 to help towards expenses.
Often the 1st show can be exciting but also disappointing because it can take some time to get your product right & for customers to understand what you are doing. We want to encourage our new exhibitors to return to our shows, even if the outcome wasn’t quite what they hoped 1st time around. Businesses do take time to develop & this can be a difficult time where self belief is vital.
All newcomers to either the KDF Christmas Show on December 3rd 2022 or the KDF Summer Show on May 12th & 13th 2023 are eligible for our ‘LDF Debut Award 2022/23’ A newcomer is classed as follows:
- Any craftsman who has never exhibited at an LDF show before.
- OR if you have been part of an online showcase, but this is your 1st live show.
- OR if your are returning to an LDF show after a 7 or more year break.
Newcomers will be judged on the following:
- Quality of miniatures produced
- Understanding of their materials
- Knowledge of their product
- Uniqueness & individuality
- Understanding of scale & proportion
We will also be looking at the following:
- How their miniatures are displayed at the show
- Customer interaction & service
- Business branding, pricing, stock etc
This will be an annual award, running from the Christmas Show to the Summer Show, with the award being presented at the Festival in May. We really hope this will give miniaturists thinking about exhibiting with us the incentive to take that 1st step (we will help you all the way & will be happy to discuss any problems you may have about getting to our events).
How do I apply for the show?
The 1st step to get your place at the show is to contact us with some info about yourself & photos of your work. If you have any current KDF Exhibitors who know your work & can vouch for you, this is great too. We will then get back to you to discuss your work in more detail. We always keep tables available for newcomers. You can CLICK HERE to find out more information on applying for the show.
You do not need to register for the LDF Debut Award. If you are a new exhibitor, you will be entered automatically.
If you are interested to know more about this award, please contact the LDF Office email@example.com & we will send you more details.
