Private tour of Queen Mary’s Dolls House

An intimate visit to see the most famous dolls house in the world; celebrating it’s 100th birthday in 2024

Queen Mary’s Dollshouse was completed in 1924

Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House was built between 1921 and 1924 as a gift from the nation to Queen Mary following the First World War. It is a perfect 1:12 scale replica of an Edwardian residence, complete with electricity, working lifts and running water. Its scaled-down rooms range from a fully stocked wine cellar and ‘below-stairs’ spaces to grand entertaining salons, and feature contributions from over 1,500 of the finest artists, craftspeople, and manufacturers of the day. The house went on display at Windsor Castle in 1925 and has been delighting visitors ever since.

“It is built to outlast us all. To carry on into the future and different world this pattern of our own. It is a serious attempt to express our age and to show forth in dwarf proportions the limbs of our present world.”

A.C. Benson, The Book of The Queen’s Dolls’ House (1924)

London Dollshouse Festivals couldn’t let this momentous centenary pass without getting involved! There will be lots of things happening at our Summer Show on May 17th & 18th celebrating the 100th birthday of the most famous dolls house in the world.

Part of our celebrations is a private tour of the dolls house for our guests, with an introductory talk about the history & conservation of the dolls house. This is a unique opportunity to see the dolls house without the usual crowds. The tour will be taking place on Monday 20th May, from 2pm – 6pm. Spaces are limited, so we recommend you book your space now. (Tour ticket is at the bottom of the Eventbrite list of tickets for the May show. Price is £37 + £8 admin fee)

PLEASE NOTE: the tour on May 16th is now sold out.

Windsor Castle will also be organising online virtual tours of the dolls house so I recommend you visit their website to find dates for these if you cannot get to Windsor in person.
