Featured Artist: Maria Bevill of Miniature Trees by Maria

How Maria’s love of interiors drew her to a smaller world.

It is no surprise that Maria’s other job is as a full size interior designer. A tiny world of interiors must be compelling to a person who decorates houses for a living & Maria’s love of festive holidays has made it possible for her to celebrate all year round.

As with many miniaturists, Maria got the dolls house bug when her aunt bought a bust up old dolls house for her to decorate for her daughter. It didn’t take long for Maria to see the joy of designing rooms on a tiny scale & like all rooms, they need to be decorated for all the festive holidays throughout the year.

My designs are all about realism; to take the visual details & magic of the holidays into displays that will fit into your hand. I like to capture the essence of a scene and then translate it as best I can in 1:12 scale.

Maria works from her home studio which has large windows so lots of light. She estimates she works on her miniatures around 5 hours a day, 7 days a week, so along with her interior design work, she never has enough time & is kept pretty busy.

What is her most used tool or material?

My friends would tell you glitter as I am always covered in it!
