Featured Artist : Tarbena Miniatures

Barbara & Alan of Tarbena Miniatures have been part of our shows since 1995. Recently, they have taken a step back from our live events but are continuing to be part of our Online Showcases, where they can continue to share their beautiful furniture & other miniatures with their customers worldwide.

Alan & Barbara make furniture from most periods and welcome commissions. Many of their pieces can be seen in museums and collections throughout the world. They use various woods with the appropriate grain for each piece, accurately scaling down of the original to the specialised finish, giving age, character and charm. Some are delicately hand painted too, and they also have a large range of lacquered furniture with chinoiserie decoration. Several processes are used to create the ageing effect, aiming to imitate the original antique as closely as possible, but also giving each piece its own individuality and character.

Recently, they have been making a range of limited edition pieces that sit well alongside regular collection. These pieces are in high demand of course, so don’t dither if you see something you love. They also have their ever-popular range of mirror & frames & now have a small selection of 1:24 scale items too.

Back in 2008 I was lucky enough to go to Alan & Barbara’s studio to see how they create their beautiful furniture. This short film shows how many different processes are needed for the final result.
