Established in 1985, the London Dollshouse Festivals have been searching the globe for the best craftsmen who can perfectly replicate every day life in miniature. We have artists from all corners of the world attending our London shows. These craftsmen specialise in all aspects of miniatures from a grand, fully decorated mansion to a humble clothes peg & everything in between.

LAURENCE ST LEGER.

I was heart-broken to hear the news that Laurence St Leger died earlier this week. I have known Laurence & Angela for almost 30 years & always looked forward to catching up with them at the show.

Laurence’s creations were such a representation of his character, quirky, with a twinkle in his eye & just full of fun. That is why people loved him & his work. I cannot imagine the show without him there, ready to give me a one of his huge bear hugs. He had such great energy around him that if you were feeling angry or fed up, he could change your mood instantly. That is a great & rare ability.

This is before I even mention his astounding work. More of that in a future post, but I have reposted an article on the NEWS page of our website that I wrote about him after his 2ND!! win in the Perfection in Miniature Awards.

His work was exceptional & imaginative. Always trying to shrink life size, everyday objects in to a perfect 1:12 scale replica. Photo 2 & 3 are of his two winning entries in the PIMA's, with the help of his partner in Crime, Angela.

Our thoughts are with Angela, Samuel & Henry.

KDF CHRISTMAS: The countdown begins.

This time next week we will have abandoned KDF HQ & will be heading over to Kensington Town Hall to set up for the Christmas Show. The office is a heap of boxes & piles of paper at the moment; an essential stage when organising an event.

The Christmas Show is always a busy event & the start of the run up to the Festive season.

You will be able to buy eveything your dolls house could possibly need for Christmas, trees, decorations, turkey, food, crackers etc & in miniland there is no cost of living crisis to worry about.

This photo is of @jens_torp_design. We all like to polish up the family silver for the Christmas dining table, so why not in your dolls house too?

KDF CHRISTMAS: Unicef for Ukraine

We had a very successful charity table at our show in May, featuring our LUCKY DRAWERS. This will be returning for our Christmas Show along with a secret auction for the last available Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Photo Album.

This beautiful souvenir of the Queen's reign, was made by @tine_krijnen_ as a limited edition for our LDF Members this year. We did have a couple of extras made & this is the last one! You will have the opportunity to bid for this keepsake throughout the show on December 3rd.

Make sure your visit the UNICEF FOR UKRAINE stand in the Lower Foyer.

KDF CHRISTMAS: Smaller the better.

If you are one of those people who just wants to go smaller & smaller with your miniatures, we have lots of makers specialising in 1:24 scale & smaller. These micro scales are getting more & more popular & now many exhibitors will have at least a selection of work in 1:24 as well as 1:12.

But if the tinier the better is you, make sure you visit the Lower Foyer at the show where you will find @laser_shrink_ray_minis (photo 1), @robcrouch73 (photo 2) & @kinnunenangela (photo 3), who all love these tiny scales too.

KDF CHRISTMAS: John & Sue Hodgson Designs & daughters.

Last summer we were lucky enough to have a great display of work by the mastercraftsman John Hodgson. It was wonderful to see the range of furniture he produced & details of some of his finer work.

We are pleased that Johns legacy is being carried on by his wife Sue & daughters Ruthie, Jess & Anna.

The work of our exhibitors has been getting smaller & smaller over the years & we do love the new micro miniatures appearing at the show. @the_borrowed_isle is one of these exciting new artists who create “Miniature space in vintage places”. Her quirky interiors appear in the most usual places like old cine camera, vintage purses & pocket watches. Her entry for the 2020 Perfection in Miniatire Awards was in an old football boot! We can’t wait to see where her hidden rooms appear at the Christmas Show onDecember 3rd at Kensington Town Hall.

I have loved following @platebutton on Instagram for the last year & was happy when Sabrina agreed to exhibit some of her food made from haberdashery ingredients at our show on December 3rd.

Sabrina's unusual work is created from buttons, trims & beads. This is the 1st time her work has been exhibited & we cannot wait to see more of the delicious looking dishes she will be serving up.

KDF CHRISTMAS: Jennifer's Triang Collection.

There is nothing better for us at LDF HQ, than to be invited in to see a collection of dolls houses & miniatures by one of our regular visitors, especially when they are just up the road from us!

We met Jennifer at one of our shows last year & when I heard that she was a Triang fan, I knew I wanted to see more. She kindly invited me into her home to view her collection of over 40 Triang dolls houses that she has loving restored to perfection.

Jennifer has agreed to share some of her smaller houses with us at the show on December 3rd, so you will also be able to admire some of these mid-century gems.

I asked the wonderful @millie_noble to photograph Jennifer & her collection & I will be publishing more of her photos in our catalogue.

KDF CHRISTMAS: Beth Freeman Kane. Yes @bethfreemankane is returning to the Kensington Dollshouse Festival Christmas Show on December 3rd. Travelling all the way from South Africa with her wonderful wildlife in miniature. This is a unique opportunity to see Beth's work first hand. She manages to capture nature like a photograph but in 3D. Beth first exhibited her work in person at the Christmas Show in 2018, then, but since then, she has not been back to @kcvenues, although her work has been represented without her, but finally she will be returning to Kensington herself to meet & greet & talk about her incredible work.
