We are just packing up the office & heading down to #kensingtontownhall today to get set up for our first LIVE SHOW in nearly 2 years. It has been a real struggle to get to this point with so many obstacles in our way, but we are here!

The show is going to be an emotional 2 days for everyone involved & visitors too I expect, but we cannot wait to be seeing all our regulars & newcomers in person again. So much to catch up on!

Tickets are available via our website (link in bio) & remember we do need to see proof of a double jab (vaccination card or NHS app is sufficient) OR a negative lateral flow test for entry.

It is going to be a busy & exciting couple of days. We have the 2021 PIMA’s happening, as well as the show itself. I will try to post as much as I can, but Time will be against me.

KDF LONDON SHOWCASE: Little House at the Priory

Only a few days to go until our 1st LIVE show in nearly 2 years. We are very excited!

Veronica of Little House at the Priory has become a regular at all our shows & this year, fans of the smaller scales are in for a treat. Not only do we have new exhibitors @kinnunenangela & @robcrouch73 who specialise in smaller scales, but Veronica is introducing all sorts of beautiful things for the tiny scales.

We love this 1:144 scale cottage & the gorgeous 1:48 scale beds & Knoll sofas. In 1:24 she has these cosy looking armchairs too. Of course if you are a 1:12 scale fan like me, she has lots of miniatures for you too.

KDF LONDON SHOWCASE: John Hodgson & Sue Hodgson Designs

With less than 1 week to go until the Show at Kensington Town Hall, we are in the last chaotic state of preparation. The LDF Office is a pile of papers & boxes. Most excitingly, the boxes containing some of the entries in the Perfection in Miniature Awards 2021 (more about that another day).

I know the show is approaching when I finally get the catalogue off to the printers. I managed to do this last week. We will have all sorts of articles to read in this years catalogue including a lovely piece written by Sue Hodgson about the incredible work of her husband John. Of course all regulars to the show will know John & Sue well, so it is great to hear that the business is entering a new phase. John & Sue’s 3 daughters have decided they want to continue making the furniture that John has created, so the 3 talented girls, with the help of Sue & John have each found a role in the business.

You will be able to meet 2 of the new generation at the festival next week & also see say Hi to John who will be popping in to catch up with friends.

If you are unable to come to the show, we hope to have a few of the catalogues left over. We hope to post these out to anyone who would like a copy. (we do not know if we will have any spares yet, but after the show we will know how many we have available)

KDF LONDON SHOWCASE: After Dark Miniatures

We are pleased to have a late addition to our exhibitor list at the show next weekend (Sept 17th & 18th). @eveafterdarkminiatures have exhibited at Kensington once before, but then the pandemic hit & things ground to a halt. Eve creates the most beautiful, mouthwatering food, along with other curios.

We are eternally grateful to all the exhibitors who have made such a huge effort to be part of the show this time. It has been so nerve-wracking preparing for the event, not knowing if it will be shut down at the last minute (so far so good!) & it was not an easy decision for any of them to attend.

It has been a huge amount of work, effort & expense for them all: packing up their miniatures in to their car/train/aeroplane, travelling to busy London, staying in a hotel & setting up their table so we can enjoy their incredible work. If possible, we ask as many of you as possible to come along to support their efforts.

We do have the following rules in place for entry. Everyone entering the show must have proof of a double vaccination (your vaccination card or NHS app is fine). OR proof of a negative lateral flow or PCR test taken in the last 24 hrs (we will have some tests available at the venue). Once inside the venue, masks will not be mandatory.

We are all excited to be back at Kensington after nearly 2 years & expect the show to be something really special.

KDF LONDON SHOWCASE: The Marvellous Mouse Hunt. We pride ourselves at KDF with offering lots of extras at our shows. We especially like to get the younger generation involved & encourage their love of miniatures. This year , however, we have decided to simplify the show, so we will not be organising the ‘Gingerbread Craft Club’ as the lower floor of the Town Hall is not in use. However, THE MARVELLOUS MOISE HUNT is back so kids can spend the day hunting for those pesky mice. The prize this year is this gorgeous mouse by Time4dolls. They were planning on attending their 1st KDF last year but it was not to be. We hope to see them at Kensington in the future. The mouse hunt runs throughout both days of the show & free to all young ticket holders. Winner announced on Saturday afternoon. Here you see KDF cat, Luna, showing no interest in the prize at all. #mice #kdflondon #dollshouseshowcase #competition

Another craftsman travelling to London for the KDF London Showcase on Sept 17th & 18th is @smallscaleminidesign. Marie Louise Markhorst is travelling from her home in The Netherlands. she is a master with metal & makes some beautiful miniatures in silver, copper & brass.

KDF LONDON SHOWCASE: Kate Pinsent Dolls

We have always been lucky in having the best miniature doll makers attend our shows from all over the world. If you are looking for inhabitants for your dolls house (I know that some of you would rather not have intruders in your house, but ..) you will find all kinds of characters at KDF. All scales & all eras.

@katepinsentdolls is one such maker who has learnt from the best (Her mother Jill Bennett, who exhibited at the show for many years) & has carved her own style by making perfect dolls, not only in 1:12, but also 1:24 & 1:48.

This is great news for all of you creating in the smaller scales, but my favourite is still her 1:12 dolls (pic 1 - these are Victorian era). but her 1:24 are just as appealing. I love the post war spiv & his moll (pic 2) & the fantastic Tudor Scholar (pic 3).

Not being a serious collector myself, I don't tend to purchase much at the shows, but one stand I simply cannot walk by without buying something for my miniature collection is Sally Reader’s enchanting table.

Sally started exhibiting at Kensington in 2008 after many years of me badgering her to do so. I had seen her work somewhere & absolutely loved her tiny but perfect characters.

Her range has expanded over the years & now covers all sorts of subjects, popular Children’s TV favourites, fairies & fairy tale characters, historical characters, & her much sort-after Beatrix Potter collection, as well as loads of different teddy bears. Her animals & characters are all 1:48 scale so perfect for anyone working in the smaller scales.

KDF LONDONSHOWCASE : Exhibitor Jens Torp Design

With little over 3 weeks to go until our 1st LIVE show in 20 months, we cannot wait to see some of our regulars again. We are so lucky to have a great group of craftsmen who attend our shows & it is always a bit like a family wedding when we all turn up at Kensington Town Hall & catch up on what has been happening in each others lives over the last 6 months & this time it will be nearly 2 years of catch up! I cannot wait!

@jens_torp_design is one such exhibitor. I have know Jens since I took over the dolls house shop in Covent Garden & used to come to KDF as a customer to buy stock for the shop. We would always buy some special pieces from Jens - this was probably 20 years ago I think. When I then made a short film in 2009? about some of the makers who exhibit at our show, I travelled down to Jens’ workshop & filmed him creating some of his incredible pieces. (I will post this film on our website soon I promise).

KDF LONDON SHOWCASE: Arriving from the USA.

After the last 18 months of trouble, we understand what an effort it is for any craftsman to make the journey to Kensington for our KDF London Showcase on Sept 17th & 18th, but we are lucky that many are & two craftsmen travelling further than most are Beale Street Puppets & Sallyanne Ceramics both crossing the pond from the US.

Jill Kyle Keith of Beale Street Puppets is a 1st timer at Kensington. She brings with her tiny handmade marionette puppets, along with all sorts of other treasures, including some vintage items. Some of you may remember Sally Crisafulli of @salcrissy7 (formerly known as Sally Meekins) from her visits to KDF prior to 2017 when she lived in the UK. Now a resident of the US, we are so happy she is able to return with her unique novelty ceramics of all styles & eras.

We really appreciate the efforts many craftsmen are making to get to Kensington in September. Please support them & visit the show at Kensington Town Hall to see all the incredible tiny miniatures they create.

KDF LONDON SHOWCASE 2021 (happening on Sept 17th & 18th)

The prize fund is over £10 000 this year!. Your entry does not need to be finished by tomorrow (10th Aug) but you do need to complete a registration form & return to us by email. This is available to download from our website where you will find more info on the competition. (Link in Bio then click on ‘COMPETITIONS’).

All entries will be on display at the KDF London Showcase in September. Tickets now available.

If you like small things (and I know you do), you will LOVE @lolabrandelli Canape Heaven Supper Club. This pop up restaurant in East London serves only the smallest bites of completely delicious food. 10 courses of beautiful canapés served in a candlelit crypt of an Victorian church.
