Established in 1985, the London Dollshouse Festivals have been searching the globe for the best craftsmen who can perfectly replicate every day life in miniature. We have artists from all corners of the world attending our London shows. These craftsmen specialise in all aspects of miniatures from a grand, fully decorated mansion to a humble clothes peg & everything in between.

LADY BARBARA SPEAKE’S DOLLS HOUSE COLLECTION With all the excitement & chaos of the Online Showcase, we didn’t have a spot to post about an extraordinary dolls house collection that was sold at Chiswick Auctions last week. Lady Barbara Speake was an incredible lady. I knew her originally as the owner of a stage school in West London (I attended a rival ballet school nearby) What I later found out was that she was also a huge dolls house fanatic. Hidden away in an extension on the back of her home was a collection of over 100 dolls houses & vignettes. She could be seen at our shows buying new bits & bobs to bring these houses to life, because that is what she liked…telling stories. We have recently posted a story on our NEWS page of our website about her collection. The variety of houses was incredible & you could see exactly what was going on in each scene (she had a great sense of humour!). One of her pupils was Phil Collins & they became friends. She recreated his recording studio in one of the scenes. Caroline Hamilton always used to use students from her Stage School as porters at the Festival (helping exhibitors load & unload), so when I took over in 2005, I asked Barbara if they could continue to help out, but she declined saying they couldn’t have the time off school. I continue to employ young students as porter though from all walks of life so I think this tradition continues. The photos are some of the many houses featured in the auction.
