We have artists from all corners of the world attending our London shows. These craftsmen specialise in all aspects of miniatures from a grand, fully decorated mansion to a humble clothes peg & everything in between.

KDF SUMMER SHOW: Le Palais Delicieux Sometimes the only thing that can make it better is chocolate! I have a passion for the real thing, but also for the tiny replicas that Betty Sartorio manages to re-create in 1:12 scale. BEST IN MINIATURE 2023. We are really enjoying the new season of #bestinminiature which has a couple of KDF exhibitors taking part this time. KDF SUMMER SHOW: Kim’s Miniature Doll Artistry Following on from our last post, Kim Murdock will be travelling with Lynn (Jarrah Miniatures) to Kensington Town Hall from Australia this May. Her fabulous dolls, often depicted in scenes, really tell a story about the characters she creates. Here is what Kim has to say about her love of miniatures: “I have been into 'Art' in all its forms since a small child. I think my love of figures started when very young, playing with paper dolls. The creation of them was always the important part & in that sense it still is, its just the materials that have changed! Originally from England, I now live In Western Australia. KDF SUMMER SHOW: Jarrah Miniatures Lynn Palmer is travelling to Kensington for the Summer Show from Western Australia for the 1st time along with fellow miniaturist Kim Murdock (we will talk about Kim’s work tomorrow). Lynn told us a little more about the furniture show will be bringing with her: “All my miniature furniture is handcrafted by me using Jarrah wood which is unique to Western Australia. Jarrah lends itself beautifully to miniature furniture. I carefully select the wood for each item in order that the rich tonings & fine wood grain will enhance each piece. All furniture is meticulously researched and scaled from actual full sized pieces to ensure accuracy & realism.” Meet Lynn & many other talented miniaturists at the KDF Summer Show on May 12th & 13th at Kensington Town Hall. KDF SUMMER SHOW: New Exhibitor Karen Wosley We have so many great artists exhibiting at the show again & we are excited to have a new painter, specialising in original landscapes attending the show for the 1st time in May. Karen also decorates beautiful ceramic vases with her distinctive colourful designs. Karen is a UK artist, but we have miniaturists exhibiting at our Summer Festival from 20 countries & two thirds of all our exhibitors do not exhibit at any other UK shows, so what a great opportunity to see work by talented artisans that you will not see anywhere else. Barbara & Alan have been attending the Kensington Dollshouse Festival since 1995, so it is no wonder that they are at the top of their game, with their work in collections & museums worldwide. This is what makes the KDF so special – you can come along & meet Alan & Barbara in person & buy a piece of their beautiful furniture for yourself. Alan always has a smile & a joke for you too! Tarbena have a wonderful range of furniture to buy, or they are happy to make commissions. As well as Tarbena & some other well established furniture makers, you will also find some more recent newcomers to the miniature world at the show with the likes of @yosh_sagi who has been attending since 2018 & @gabrielleelizabethcoles who has only been at Kensington since 2021. I really hope that these new makers will be around for as long as Tarbena & we can enjoy all their talent for years to come. SHOP NOW OPEN VIA OUR WEBSITE. Since lockdown, LDF have been acquiring collections of high quality dolls houses & miniatures with the aim to pass on these beautiful & unique miniatures to new homes where they will be cherished. Our Shop called @nomdeplumedesign is now available directly from our website (click on the SHOP button in the menu bar). To celebrate Valentines day, we have just uploaded a selection of the amazing characters that we currently have for sale from the collection of Florence Orr. Not only did Florence collect miniatures by other makers, but she made & dressed a huge number of dolls herself, some of which she would sell to her local dolls house store. We have around 50 of her dolls remaining, all are hand dressed, many in incredible micro knitted clothing, made by Florence. We are unsure if Florence made the moulds of the dolls herself, or if she bought these, but each one has a character of its own. The 4 in the 1st picture could be in the line up at the local police station or the new members of The Village People! Since lockdown, LDF have been acquiring collections of high quality dolls houses & miniatures with the aim to pass on these beautiful & unique miniatures to new homes where they will be cherished. To celebrate Valentines day, we have just uploaded a selection of the amazing characters that we currently have for sale from the collection of Florence Orr. Not only did Florence collect miniatures by other makers, but she made & dressed a huge number of dolls herself, some of which she would sell to her local dolls house store. We have around 50 of her dolls remaining, all are hand dressed, many in incredible micro knitted clothing, made by Florence. We are unsure if Florence made the moulds of the dolls herself, or if she bought these, but each one has a character of its own. The 4 in the 1st picture could be in the line up at the local police station or the new members of The Village People! KDF SUMMER SHOW: New silversmith - Hestelle Mare. Travelling all the way from South Africa to Kensington Town Hall is @hestelle3, an exciting new silversmith, creating silver miniatures for your dolls house. (she makes some beautiful Art Deco style drinks trolleys for miniature houses, but I don't have a good photo of one at present, but you can see them on her IG page) LDF are on the hunt for more new specialist makers like Hestelle, especially in the glassware, metalware, ceramics & carpentry fields, so if you know anyone who has the skills, but maybe needs a bit of encouragement, please let us know about them! KDF SUMMER SHOW: Make it Small Miniatures. One problem with shrinking down our life to 1:12th of its real size is that some things shrink down better than others. There is nothing we like more than finding a beautifully made piece of furniture, say a wardrobe with opening doors, only to have the problem of filling it. Most miniature clothes are too stiff to sit right on a coat hanger so you wardrobe will only fit one or two outfits. Obviously this is not acceptable for most fashion-conscious girls of today, so thank goodness for @gillbayesminiatures who has made it her mission to supply clothes that will actually fit in a 1:12 scale wardrobe or cupboard. We cannot wait to see her full collection at the KDF Summer Show on May 12th & 13th, alongside other exciting new makers.
